Thanks for your post on this site. From my own personal experience, occasionally softening up a photograph might provide the photography with a chunk of an artistic flare. Many times however, the soft clouds isn't precisely what you had in mind and can quite often spoil an otherwise good image, especially if you thinking about enlarging the item.
